On January 19th,approximately 23 members
of the Georgia affiliate met for a great evening of fun and fellowship
in Cartersville, Georgia. Following dinner, several people gave reports
on different areas of the association.
Dan Davis gave the financial report, which showed we were in the black.
It was announced the “Georgia Gang” purchased a cow / heifer calf 3-n-1,
in which ALL proceeds will go to the Georgia Juniors. The cows offspring
will be sold each year at the Mountain Laurel Classic. You can check out
a picture of the heifer on the website.
It was also announced the sale date will be moved to the second Saturday
in November each year. This years date is the 8th of November. The
location has been moved to the UGA Livestock Pavilion in Calhoun,
Georgia.
John Denson reported the website was now averaging around 200 hits per

NEWS FLASH - October

WE ARE MOVING OUR SALE DATE!!
We are going to move our sale date to the second Saturday
in November.
Our
next sale will be on November 8, 2008!! |
NEWS FLASH - August 2, 2007 ::
On Saturday the 28th of
July the Georgia Santa Gertrudis Association held
its annual sale at the Calhoun Stockyard.
We started with dedicating this years sale in memory of Larry A.
Loughridge, who was not only one of the original sponsors in the
Mountain Laurel, but was a longtime breeder of big red cows. Larry was a
great husband, father,
grandfather and most importantly a dedicated Christian. He will be
missed
by all.
Before the sale started a few items had been donated for the Georgia
Juniors. Someone donated a homemade cake, a local manufactor gave a nice
5 x 7 rug, Mrs. Mullinax from Bull Gap Farms painted a beautiful
barnyard picture , King Ranch gave a semen package with Cherokee General
and King 55 in it. Then Jerry and Pat Stults from Diamond S Ranch out of
Ft. Worth, Texas donated a "SUPER NICE" Top Gun heifer that was
auctioned off and ALL the proceeds went to the 2007 "GOALS."
Even though we have been in a drought the past few months the turnout
was great, even had a shower that morning.
With 30 consignors from 9 states totaling 51 Purebred Lots and 7 Star 5
Pens, the sale averaged over $1600.
After the sale the Georgia Juniors had hamburgers, chips and drinks for
everyone. The Juniors made a lot of money on Saturday. Hard work pays
off.
When the dust settled, we would like to thank a few that without them
the
sale would not have been as successful as it was.
1. Calhoun Stockyard.....great facilities , great helpers in the
back.
2. Hoover Case...can't have a cow sale without him.
3. Darren Richmond...picked the good 'uns again this year.
4. Pat Stults & "Alliance Financial"...cool as the other side of the
pillow.
5. Consignors...bringing good cattle
6. Buyers....thanks for supporting our sale.
7. November 8, 2008.....date for the Mountain Laurel Classic next
year.
Look for a complete list of buyers in the near future on the website.
Thanks again,
Sale committee for the Mountain Laurel Classic |
